Your First 30 Days at SELF
Starting something new can feel exciting — and a little overwhelming. If you’ve just joined SELF (or are thinking about it), this guide is here to help you understand what the first 30 days actually look like.
Not perfectly. Not ideally. But realistically.
Because at SELF, the goal isn’t to overhaul your life — it’s to build a rhythm that supports it.
Week 1: The First Ride (and the Nerves That Come With It)
Let’s be honest: your first class can feel like a lot.
New room. New bikes. New cues. New music. New people.
That feeling isn’t a sign you don’t belong — it’s a rite of passage. Almost every rider you see in class felt the exact same way their first time.
Here’s what matters most in Week 1:
Showing up (even if you feel awkward)
Asking questions
Letting yourself move without pressure
You don’t need to keep up. You don’t need to “get it.” You don’t need to push past your limits.
Your only job is to ride — however that looks for you.
What most riders feel after Week 1:
Proud they showed up
A little sore
Curious about coming back
That curiosity is enough.
Week 2: Finding Your Feet (and the beat)
By your third or fourth class, things start to feel familiar.
You know where to check in. You’re starting to understand the rhythm. You recognize an instructor or two. The room doesn’t feel quite as intimidating.
This is the week where confidence quietly starts to build.
In Week 2, we recommend:
Trying at least two classes
Sampling different instructors or class times
Noticing how you feel after class, not during
Progress at SELF isn’t measured by speed or resistance — it’s measured by how movement supports your life.
What most riders feel after Week 2:
Less nervous
More capable
More connected
Week 3: Building Your Rhythm
Week 3 is where things shift from “trying something new” to “this could be part of my routine.”
You may start to notice:
Better energy during the day
Improved mood
A desire to protect class time on your calendar
This is also where many riders realize something important:
Consistency doesn’t require intensity.
One to three rides per week is enough to feel meaningful change — physically and mentally.
In Week 3, focus on:
Choosing class times you can realistically keep
Letting go of perfection
Allowing movement to be supportive, not stressful
What most riders feel after Week 3:
More grounded
More capable
More like they belong
Week 4: Settling In
By the end of your first month, SELF likely feels different than it did on day one.
You recognize faces. You have a favorite bike. You know which instructors resonate with you. You understand your body better.
This is where SELF becomes more than a workout.
It becomes:
A place you return to
A routine that steadies you
A form of care you don’t have to earn
There’s no finish line here. Just forward motion.
What most riders feel after 30 days:
Stronger (in more ways than one)
More confident
Grateful they started
A Few Things We Want You to Know
You are always welcome to modify
Rest is encouraged
There is no “falling behind”
You don’t have to earn your place here
SELF was built for real life — busy weeks, low-energy days, and everything in between.
If You’re Still Nervous…
That’s okay.
You don’t need to feel brave to start. You just need to show up once.
We’ll help with the rest.
Whenever you’re ready, we’d love to ride with you.
If you have questions before your first class, our team is always happy to help — in person, by text (479.259.1484), or by email (info@selfcycle.co). You don’t have to figure this out alone.
